Timbersil uses sodium silicate, a mixture of soda ash and sand in the treatment process to produce a safe and human-health-friendly building product.
For a long time the standard additive in treated wood had been green chromated copper arsenate. But it leached arsenic. Starting in 2002, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) began to phase out the use of this in residential work.
The use of chromated aresate was replaced with alkaline copper quartenary. This was less toxic but but it turned out to be corrosive for metal fasteners.
