Energy efficiency can not be an after thought -- it must be a systems approach. The layout and planning, the structure ... the foundation, the walls, the floors, the roof, doors-and-windows, and HVAC, electrical, equipment and furnishings, all have an impact on the energy consumption of the building. It takes a team of competent professionals to build an energy efficient building.
