The Geodesic Dome roof over the Garage is at the second floor level. The front face of the dome was shaved off to allow for a straightened front face with windows over the header for a 3 car Garage at the lower level -- there is one double door and 1 -single door.
Straightening out the front face of the dome meant that 5 node points 1 each near the end walls and 3 in the id portion needed to be supported to effectively transfer dead and live loads to the structure downstream and eventually to mother earth below. The Geodesic Domes kits were supplied by Timberline Geodesics -- I did discuss my plan for the needed supports with Bob Singer of Timberline Geodesics and I was very pleased with his courteous and prompt response agreein gwith my proposed plan. I also submitted a design sketch to the Building Department for information and records.
I will discuss about the supports further in Supports-for-Front-Face-of-Garage-Geodesic-Dome-Home-in-Michigan-Design-Sketch-RobD1-101
I present here some pictures from Part1 of the investigation -- I will keep you posted with more details and pictures as we progress further along.
